U.S.S. Yorktown (CV-10), Essex-Class (Short Hull) as outfitted 22 August 1943. Built by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, Virginia. Laid down 1 December 1941, launched 21 January 1943, commissioned 15 April 1943, decommissioned 9 January 1947, recommissioned 2 January 1953, decommissioned 27 June 1970, stricken 1 June 1973, preserved as a museum at Patriot's Point, Charleston, South Carolina.
