Mahan (DD-364) Class destroyers as modified during 1942-1944. The configuration
is represented by USS Cummings (DD-365).
Specifications for this configuration of the Mahan Class were taken from Ships
Data U.S. Naval Vessels, Vol. 1, 15 April 1945. Displacement: 1729 tons (trial).
Dimensions: 341’-4” overall, 35’-5” beam, 17’-2” max. draft. Speed: 39.2 knots
(trial). Armament: four single 5-in./38 cal. gun mounts, two twin 40mm gun
mounts, five single 20mm gun mounts, one quadruple 21-in. torpedo tube mount,
and four single K-Gun depth charge projectors (for 300 lb. charges. Radar: one
SC air search set and one SG surface search set. Fire Control: one MK 33 GFCS/MK
3 radar. Sonar: one QC set. Complement: 16 officers and 235 enlisted.
Note: This release does not include the Mahan Class destroyers Cassin (DD-372),
Shaw (DD-373), and Downes (DD-375) which were rebuilt to a slightly different
configuration after being damaged at Pearl Harbor.
